Overview:

The past few years we have walked away with zero All-Americans on the men's side. This year that changes. We have two nationally ranked wrestlers headed into the tournament, Bentley and Lorenzo. Each of those to continually has proven that they are ready to place here. Then we have we a solid contingent of wrestlers right behind them ready to make national noise. Our state has showed progression at national tournaments the past few years and this Super 32 will be another data point to show that progression.

We can't wait to see y'all in Greensboro! If you see us, say hey! As always, LET'S GO, NORTH CAROLINA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most Likely to Place:

Lorenzo Alston:

-Lorenzo has been in the national rankings for quite some time. He has proven that he is right in the mix to place. We feel confident that he will be wrestling late into the day on Saturday.

Bentley Sly:

-Blood round at Fargo, Blood round at Super 32, takes out the number 1 kid in the country at Fargo. Bentley has been right there for the big ones 3 straight tournaments. This time he punches his ticket to place.

Jack Harty:

-It would be tough to find anyone as hard-nosed as Jack. He just straight up scraps. He continued to improve over the course of the spring and summer and was firing off great leg attacks in Fargo. He is one that you can never count out.

Eli Horton:

-Eli went a under the radar 5-2 last year. He then looked incredible all season long on the way to a second state title. He is someone who could be the talk of the country come October 20th.

Cael Dunn:

-The three-time state champ is starting at a new school with a new weight. As you will see later in this article, 215/220 has been a good weight for NC. Cael is a good bet to keep it going.

Keyshon Morrison:

-215 could see two placers for NC. Morrison won the Early Entry tournament and really looks like he is coming into his own.

Who is going on a deep run:

Carson Raper:

-He continually proves that he can hang with anyone. Look for a run from Carson.

Liam Myles:

-Myles first came on my radar here a year ago. Back at 106, we see him having a similar run.

Trevilian Hall:

-He isn't under the radar for us and after Super 32, he won't be for the country either.

Mac Johnson:

-Mac has huge wins and almost wins from every event he enters. He is due for a big performance here. His quick reattacks are going to punish people.

Tye Johnson:

-Tye can compete with anyone. He has phenomenal leg attacks and super quick go behinds.  He can score on anyone in bunches. That is a great advantage headed into Super 32. We see him knock of some big names.

Gabe Rogers:

-Moving up weights. Doesn't matter. Gabe is a dog. The best single leg in NC is going to takedown a ton of these fools from other states.

Aiden White:

-I cannot stop talking about how impressive this kid is. Y'all will see too. Just watch. Not just his matches but all the interactions he has.

Ayden Sumners:

-This kid trains like a madman. That training has paid off with a good Fargo performance. He has been laser focused on this tournament since.

Connor Reece:

-The #1 ranked wrester in his class has been improving after a stellar freshman season. He is going to go score and that is the mentality you need to do well here.

Aaron Ellison:

-Aaron came away from Fargo an AA. That proves he can make a great run here.

Carson Worrick:

-Worrick was training up in PA a bunch this summer. He is going to put those new skills to the test here. This time representing Davie.

Tobin McNair:

-Tobin has been rapidly improving. If you watched any of his Ultimate Club Duals matches, you understand what I mean. He is going to show those quick leg attacks and go behinds at Super 32.

Gavin Lopez:

-The Ultimate Club Duals was Lopez coming out party. This dude has been grinding this offseason. He is primed for another performance here.

Avery Rhymer:

-This kid has unlimited potential. I am interested to see how he has improved and what that translates to at Super 32.

Ones to watch:

Drew Teeter:

-I have said it enough, don't miss a Teeter match. He never disappoints.

Jake Amiott:

-The Black-Market video star is one that everyone needs to keep an eye on. He has a fun style and isn't afraid to mix it up.

Hayden Smith:

-He has a funky style and isn't afraid to let it rip.

Mitchell Rowland:

-Mitchell looks much more like himself than he did during the season last year. That is good for NC and bad for the rest of the country.

Jordan Miller:

-He lights people up on his feet. He is one to keep an eye on.

Holt Quincy:

-His top game is a game changer. With the shortened matches at Super 32, he could pull off some upsets.

Colt Cambruzzi:

-Been training with another Colt. He is getting angles and improving quickly. He is a darkhorse pick.

Dom Blue:

-Dom is the man. He wrestles hard and is fun to watch. He can also drop some insane highlight reel bombs.

Jacob Reigel:

-Reigel is someone that we think can surprise a lot of people here.

Aaron Angel Ruiz:

-He gets to legs and moves his feet really well for someone his size. He is still so young. Watch out for Aaron.

The Freshmen:

Three freshmen at 106 and another at 113. We have been touting this freshmen and middle school group for a while and there is true evidence as to why.

Carson Raper:

-Carson has shown this spring and summer that he isn't afraid to compete against anyone and is going to be a real force here at 106.

Danny McDermott:

-McDermott being at 113 is interesting to me. It might be an early indicator of the Union Pines lineup or maybe he is growing. Either way he has the national wins to make a run here.

Kellen Gue:

-Gue has the pedigree and is entering with a chance to start the year off by inserting himself into the 4A title contender picture.

Jake Geist:

-Geist is the freshman that I know the least about but probably the most excited to see because of that. He has great coaching at his club and will enter prepared.

History:

The Last Super 32 AA from our state was Nathan Carnes in 2022. He placed 7th at 285. Over the past five Super 32 tournaments NC has produced six AAs. Joe Sealey at 152, Kyle Montaperto at 113, Sakarri Morrison at 220, Carson Floyd at 220, and Triston Norris at 220 and the previously mentioned Carnes.

This means 50% of our All-Americans the past five years have come from the 220 (215) weight class.

Season implications:

Could the lineups of Union Pines and Davie be any more interesting?

Davie has both Szewyck and Thao registered at 132. Then they have Worrick, Gould and Davis all around 150/157.

Union Pines has a ridiculous amount of talent down low with Myles, Shaver, and the McDermott brothers.

Super 32 might show us how these lineups are going to shake out for the year.

Weight by weight:

106:

Xander Moody

Carson Raper

Christopher Thomas

Jake Geist

Kellen Gue

Lennon Ogden

Liam Myles

A solid group with stud freshmen in Gue, Geist, and Raper. Then you have state champ, Liam Myles. Myles first entered my radar a year ago here where he put together a nice run.

113:

Aiden Burkholder

Aiden Gallegos

Danny McDermott

Denzel Benton

Jaxon Thomas

Ryder Menard

Sam Boltes

Sander Tran

Trevelian Hall

We got some serious talent at 113 with champs, placers and young guns. Led by state champs Burkholder and Hall. Trevilian is a darkhorse to watch for a deep run.

120:

Adrian Feliciano

Anthony Barney

Dino Lambos

Jekai Sedgwick

Jesse Farnsworth

Jordan Miller

Matthew Akins

This weight has 8A implications with Sedgwick, Feliciano, Farnsworth and Akins all at 8A. Miller tore through the state tournament a year ago, I am interested to see how he has continued to progress.

126:

Mac Johnson

Ayden Sumners

Gabriel Jones

Holt Quincy

Kaiden Dahle

Liam McConaughy

Superstar names at 126. Mac, Sumners and Holt Quincy lead the small but quality weight for NC. Anyone of them can make noise.

132:

Aidan Szewczyk

Tye Johnson

Aiden White

Cameron Gue

Cameron Massey

Colt Cambruzzi

Gael Guerrero

Garrison Raper

Gavin Castillo

Harrison Landon

Justice Collins

Tiaj Thao

One of our more loaded weights. We have state champs Aiden White, Cameron Gue, Garrison Raper and Tye Johnson. We also have state finalists Thao and Szewczyk. Add in 3rd place finisher, Justice Collins, then we have the credentials at this weight to get some wins. This weight also has two of the more intriguing wrestlers headed into the season in Cambruzzi and Massesy. Both are state title threats and could be threats to make a run here as well. The intrigue does not stop there with this weight. Gue and Raper are both at 4A.  White, Johson, Thao, and Szewczyk are all at 7A!

138:

Gabe Rogers

Coy Deel

Gavin Smith

Jake Amiott

Josh Brezac

Landon Kemp

Mitchell Rowland

Samuel Gantt

State champ Gabe Rogers is all the way up at 138 and leads a talented group. Amiott, Gantt and Rowland are al must watch individuals.

144:

Aaron Ellison

Alex May

Austin Laws

Connor Reece

Dominic Avvisato

Eli Horton

Hayden Smith

James Campos

Nicholas Arado

Samuel McQueen

Tyton Kostoff

The weight of weight for NC? It is this weight, 132 and 157 in our minds. Ellison has a Fargo AA under his belt and will look to bring that success here. Eli Horton leads this pack with his two state titles and a 5-2 run here a year ago. Then add in studs Reece, Campos, Smith, May and Kostoff and it becomes ridiculously good for NC. The most intrigue here might be that Campos and Smith are both at the same weight. I cannot wait to see what White Oak does with that.

150:

Beck McNeer

Bentley Sly

Christopher Aparicio

Jacob Perry

Joshua Stonebraker

Khalif Rhodes

Roger Manus

Royce Espinoza

Travis Nobles

Vincent Grack

Bentely Sly. See Above. The rest of the weight has same young talent. Stonebraker was a standout performer from Fargo. Perry was a NHSCA AA this spring. Grack is really talented and one of my "watch these guys" this year! Nobles is really tough and exciting to watch. Then state runner-up Aparicio is always in every match. Add in emerging star Rhodes and private schooler, McNeer and this weight is another fun one.

157:

Benjamin Zeren

Cainan Williams

Campbell Tufts

Carson Worrick

Isaiah Mewborn

Jake McCord

Lorenzo Alston

Tobin McNair

A smaller list but oh boy, it is a good one. Lorenzo is Lorenzo. We all know. To accompany him at this weight we have McNair, McCord, Worrick, Tufts and Mewborn. What a weight for NC! McNair and Tufts could potentially be the state final in February. Worrick, and McCord are both at 7A! An added note in this weight is Cainan Williams. He is a North Carolina kid who competes for McCallie school in TN. He is a treat to watch. Dial in, folks. This is going to be fun!

165:

Andrew Meadows

Brayden Smith

Dom Blue

Drew Teeter

Fares Alkurdasi

Kavan Wilson

Keilan Adams

Max McNeer

Michael Mauro

Seth Downing

Thomas Gingerich

Tripp Sullivan

If you could only watch one weight, this might be it. You have three of the most high-octane guys in our state all here in Dom Blue, Meadows and Teeter. Each one is must watch. Continuing the fun weight is state runner-ups, Wilson and Mauro. This weight also has Sullivan, Gingererich, Adams, and Smith who all are state placers.

175:

Cameron Perryman

Carson Owens

Gavin Gholami

Jack Harty

Jacob Reigel

Jacob Hillis

Jude Acuff

Jack Harty leads this weight with some real tough kids behind him. Jacob Reigel could be a guy we talk about on the Monday after as a guy who made a surprise run. Carson Owens was a private school state champ and now will be at Leesville Road. Keep an eye on him. Hillis was auy who impressed last February. Let's see what jumps he has made.

190:

Brieon Mayfield

Deyari El-Amin

Dom Hittepole

Logan Mumy

Ronith Suda

Sam Harper

Another weight where we have a small contingent but great talent. Harper, El-Amin and Mayfield are the three top contenders for the 7A 190lb title. So, yeah! Watch that! Hittepole has been tough at national competitions for forever!

215:

Aaron Ruiz-Angel

Avery Rhymer

Cael Dunn

Gavin Lopez

Keyshon Morrison

Five wrestlers. Five Monsters. We could see a placer from here considering the historical data with these current studs. Each one of them is capable of placing here.

285:

Zack Knott

Thank you, Zack, for putting it on the line as the lone heavy from NC!

NC on NC Crime:

We want 14 NC champs! We want every placer to be from NC. We want these matches to occur and too many more to type to occur!

Carson Raper vs. Liam Myles

-The young super stud freshman vs. the state champ. It would promise to produce points.

Danny McDermott vs. Aiden Burkholder

-Another fresham super stud vs. a state champ. This one would be so much fun!

Mac Johnson vs. Ayden Sumners

-Two of the best leg attackers in the state. Tye and Ayden had one of the best matches of The Gate City Grapple (RIP) a few years ago!

Garrison Raper vs. Cameron Gue

-This one isn't just two former state champs looking to step back to the top of the podium. They are both at 4A so, they are going to have to beat each other to make that happen. They are both Darkhorse kids too. Cap it off with they both have crazy similar styles and the intrigue is high.

Tye Johson vs. Aiden White

-This one might be the most anticipated one on the list. This has future state title implications with both being at 7A. Both juniors with state titles to their names. Two kids who traveled to Fargo and competed against the best. Both get to legs often; both like to score points. Tune in.

Gabe Rogers vs. Sammy G

-Gabe is up three weights, Sammy G is down one. This could be one weights takedowns are being exchanged frequently as both are great takedown artists. The intrigue of how Gabe looks up several weights only adds to this matchup.

Jake Amiott vs. Gabe Rogers

-Gabe. Again. 138 is fun and both these guys are fun to watch. Let's put on a show.

Sammy G vs. Mitchell Rowland

-This would be a great litmus test to see how Rowland will fair this season after regaining his health and looking great in the early part of the fall.

Aaron Ellison vs. Hayden Smith

-Both let it fly in all positions and are two of the top sophomores in the state. Get your popcorn, if this happens.

Connor Reece vs. Eli Horton

-Reece and Horton wrestled last year. Horton won handily. This would be a good gauge of how much Reece has improved or how much Horton has pulled away from the NC field.

Jacob Perry vs. Joshua Stonebraker

-Perry is coming for his revenge tour this year after having to miss the postseason last year. Stonebraker had such an impressive spring. This would be a war.

Lorenzo Alston vs. Tobin McNair

-This is the match to make in the state, in my opinion. Both guys are in the top couple of their class, performing well at national tournaments and are at the exact same weight.

Tobin McNair vs. Campbell Tufts

-In what could be a preview of the 8A state final, this Cap City vs. Cap City crime has real implications.

Carson Worrick vs. Jake McCord

-The 7A final could very well be these two. We could get the preview here. Both have "new" for the year. McCord is up a bunch of weights. Worrick is now at Davie.

Drew Teeter vs. Andrew Meadows

-If this happens, I will take the over on any point total you could come up with.

Dom Blue vs. Andrew Meadows

-Two absolute studs who score points. You can't ask for anything better.

Dom Hittepole vs. Sam Harper

-Hittepole has been one of the top NC competitors his whole career. Harper has continuously built himself into a state title contender. This one would be an interesting style matchup.

Keyshon Morrison vs. Cael Dunn

-215 is a great weight for NC. This is probably the top match for NC on NC battles. Cael has moved schools and up a weight to create this high-level match.

Cael Dunn vs. Avery Rhymer

-Rhymer is a brute and is very good. This would be a great litmus test for Cael as far as the size factor.
