June 15th: The Johnson Brothers

Despite the success at national tournaments such as Fargo, two state titles and three state finals appearances between them, Tye and Mac weren't sure what to expect heading into the first day that college coaches can contact the class of 2027.

The Johnson brothers didn't have to wait long to find out. Shortly after midnight the phone began to ring. Tye and Mac shared that University of Mount Olive, NC State and University of Pennsylvania are the schools were the first to contact them.
When reflecting on the first few hours of their recruitment, Mac and Tye stated "what stood out the most was how genuine and personal the conversations felt. It wasn't just about wrestling. It was about who we are as students and how we would fit into their program and culture."
In the days following the University of North Carolina and UNC Pembroke have also reached out to the Johnsons.
Mac and Tye intend to continue their athletic and academic careers together. "Us being in the room together at the next level is very important to us and a priority."
As the process continues and beginning to find the right fit for them the brothers said "We are trying to stay grounded and focused on what matters most to us. We both want development both on and off the mat. We are looking for a program that values hard work, has a strong team culture, and where we can see growth over the next four or five years. At the end of the day, we want to be in an environment where we will be challenged and supported."
One thing is certain, whichever program is lucky enough to land Mac and Tye is getting two outstanding wrestlers and two incredible young men.
